United Nations Calendar For October 2019

  • International Walk to School Month: October is the International Walk to School Month. International Walk to School Month gives children, parents, school teachers and community leaders an opportunity to be part of a global event as they celebrate the many benefits of walking. Walkers from around the world walk to school together for various reasons — all hoping to create communities that are safe places to walk.

    The following is an overview of the days and the corresponding celebration declared by the United Nations that apply to october 2019:

    Notes:

    [UNESCO] Day observed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

    [ILO] Day observed by the International Labour Organization.

    [UPU] Day observed by the Universal Postal Union.

    [floating] A 'floating' holiday. An employee at the United Nations may or may not choose to take this day as a holiday. Starting in 2016, the United Nations staff will no longer have 10 official holidays. There will be nine official holidays and each employee will be able to choose one of seven floating holidays as a 10th holiday.

    [WHO] Day observed by the World Health Organization.

    [WHOSPN] This is not part of the official public campaigns of the World Health Organization.

    [FAO] Day observed by the Food and Agriculture Organization.
