Is October 12 2024 Part Of A Jewish Celebration?

The following is a collection of holidays, commemorations, observations and celebrations for the Jewish community during Saturday, 2024-10-12. For more information on the equivalence of dates in the Hebrew calendar and other calendars, please see Hebrew Calendar 5784.

  • Yom Kippur:

[majorfast] [yom-tov] Yom Kippur, also known as Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year for the Jewish people. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jewish people traditionally observe this holy day with an approximate 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services.
  • Day of Repentance - Day 10:

Starting from the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, ten days of repentance, also referred to as Days of Awe, begin during which people meditate on the sins committed during the past year and proceeds to repent. The 10 days of repentance, also called Aseret Yemei Teshuva(Aseret Y'may T'shuvah), end with the conclusion of Yom Kippur.

Notes:

[majorfast] A major fast lasts 25 hours.

[yom-tov] This day is yom tov, so it has similar obligations and restrictions to Shabbat in the sense that normal work (melacha) is forbidden.
