Throughout National Park Week, as we celebrate the ways in which our treasured outdoor spaces enrich our lives and uplift our spirits, the National Park Service will again offer free admission to America's National Parks so more people can explore our country's vast natural beauty.
  • Earth Day:

    Earth Day is observed on April 22. First celebrated in 1970 in the United States, it inspired national legislation such as the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts. Earth Day is designed to promote ecology, encourage respect for life on earth, and highlight concern over pollution of the soil, air, and water.
  • Confederate Memorial Day:

    [al] In the State of Alabama, this day commemorates the surrender of Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston to Union General William Sherman on April 26, 1865. Confederate Memorial Day is observed on April 26th in most states.
