    FIRST LECTURE OF THE MASS

    Isaiah 6:1-8

    1In the year that King Uzzi'ah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and his train filled the temple. 2Above him stood the seraphim; each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3And one called to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory." 4And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5And I said: "Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!" 6Then flew one of the seraphim to me, having in his hand a burning coal which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7And he touched my mouth, and said: "Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin forgiven." 8And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me."

    RESPONSORIAL PSALM

    Psalms 40:2, 4, 7-11

    1I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry. 3He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD. 6Sacrifice and offering thou dost not desire; but thou hast given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering thou hast not required. 7Then I said, "Lo, I come; in the roll of the book it is written of me;8I delight to do thy will, O my God; thy law is within my heart." 9I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; lo, I have not restrained my lips, as thou knowest, O LORD. 10I have not hid thy saving help within my heart, I have spoken of thy faithfulness and thy salvation; I have not concealed thy steadfast love and thy faithfulness from the great congregation.

    GOSPEL OF THE MASS

    Luke 10:1-9

    1After this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to come. 2And he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. 3Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and salute no one on the road. 5Whatever house you enter, first say, `Peace be to this house!' 6And if a son of peace is there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you. 7And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages; do not go from house to house. 8Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you; 9heal the sick in it and say to them, `The kingdom of God has come near to you.'

    Advent Time.

    FIRST LECTURE OF THE MASS

    Is 30:19-21, 23-26

    Thus says the Lord GOD,
    the Holy One of Israel:
    O people of Zion, who dwell in Jerusalem,
    no more will you weep;
    He will be gracious to you when you cry out,
    as soon as he hears he will answer you.
    The Lord will give you the bread you need
    and the water for which you thirst.
    No longer will your Teacher hide himself,
    but with your own eyes you shall see your Teacher,
    While from behind, a voice shall sound in your ears:
    “This is the way; walk in it,”
    when you would turn to the right or to the left.

    He will give rain for the seed
    that you sow in the ground,
    And the wheat that the soil produces
    will be rich and abundant.
    On that day your flock will be given pasture
    and the lamb will graze in spacious meadows;
    The oxen and the asses that till the ground
    will eat silage tossed to them
    with shovel and pitchfork.
    Upon every high mountain and lofty hill
    there will be streams of running water.
    On the day of the great slaughter,
    when the towers fall,
    The light of the moon will be like that of the sun
    and the light of the sun will be seven times greater
    like the light of seven days.
    On the day the LORD binds up the wounds of his people,
    he will heal the bruises left by his blows.

    RESPONSORIAL PSALM

    PS 147:1-2, 3-4, 5-6

    R. (see Isaiah 30:18d) Blessed are all who wait for the Lord.
    Praise the LORD, for he is good;
    sing praise to our God, for he is gracious;
    it is fitting to praise him.
    The LORD rebuilds Jerusalem;
    the dispersed of Israel he gathers.
    R. Blessed are all who wait for the Lord.
    He heals the brokenhearted
    and binds up their wounds.
    He tells the number of the stars;
    he calls each by name.
    R. Blessed are all who wait for the Lord.
    Great is our LORD and mighty in power:
    to his wisdom there is no limit.
    The LORD sustains the lowly;
    the wicked he casts to the ground.
    R. Blessed are all who wait for the Lord.

    GOSPEL OF THE MASS

    Mt 9:35–10:1, 5a, 6-8

    Jesus went around to all the towns and villages,
    teaching in their synagogues,
    proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom,
    and curing every disease and illness.
    At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them
    because they were troubled and abandoned,
    like sheep without a shepherd.
    Then he said to his disciples,
    “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
    so ask the master of the harvest
    to send out laborers for his harvest.”

    Then he summoned his Twelve disciples
    and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out
    and to cure every disease and every illness.

    Jesus sent out these Twelve after instructing them thus,
    “Go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
    As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’
    Cure the sick, raise the dead,
    cleanse lepers, drive out demons.
    Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.”
