• Confederate Memorial Day:

  ^[ms-le][al] The last Monday in April, Confederate Memorial Day is celebrated to remember the surrender of Confederate Gen. Joseph Johnston and his army on April 26, 1865.

• State Holiday:

  ^[ga] In early August 2015, Georgia's governor has removed Confederate Memorial Day and Robert E. Lee's Birthday from the state calendar, replacing them with the designation "state holiday." The decision comes after public discontent with symbols honoring the Confederacy.

• Confederate Memorial Day:

  ^[al] In the State of Alabama, this day commemorates the surrender of Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston to Union General William Sherman on April 26, 1865. Confederate Memorial Day is observed on April 26th in most states.
