International Days April 22 2022 (United Nations)

The following is an overview of the days and the corresponding celebration declared by the United Nations that apply to Friday, 2022-04-22:

  • International Mother Earth Day:

Recognizing Mother Earth reflects the interdependence that exists among human beings, other living species and the planet we all inhabit, the General Assembly declared 22 April as International Mother Earth Day to recognize the responsibility we have to promote harmony with nature and the Earth to achieve a balance between economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations.
  • Orthodox Good Friday:

[floating] With the interest of respecting the diversity of United Nations staff members, resolution 62/250 designates Orthodox Good Friday as a floating holiday. Generally, the Orthodox Church celebrates Good Friday on a later date than most Western churches because the Orthodox Church still lives according to the old Julian Calendar.

Notes:

[floating] A 'floating' holiday. An employee at the United Nations may or may not choose to take this day as a holiday. Starting in 2016, the United Nations staff will no longer have 10 official holidays. There will be nine official holidays and each employee will be able to choose one of seven floating holidays as a 10th holiday.
