International Days June 30 2017 (United Nations)

The following is an overview of the days and the corresponding celebration declared by the United Nations that apply to Friday, 2017-06-30:

  • International Day of Friendship:

[FAO] The International Day of Friendship Day is meant to regard friendship as a noble and valuable sentiment in the life of human beings worldwide and that it promotes dialogue among civilizations, solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation. This day comes from the proposal made by UNESCO and addressed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1997 defined the culture of peace as a set of values, attitudes, and behaviors that reject violence and prevent conflicts.
  • International Asteroid Day:

The General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the resolution A/RES/71/90 declaring 30 June as International Asteroid Day to be observed each year aiming to raise awareness about the asteriod impact hazard. 30 June was chosen as it makes us remember the day of the Tunguska asteroid impact over Siberia, Russia in 1908, a large explosion that flattened 2,000 km2 of forest.

Notes:

[FAO] Day observed by the Food and Agriculture Organization.
