The following is an overview of the days and the corresponding celebration declared by the United Nations that apply to Saturday, 2021-05-08:

  • Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation for Those Who Lost Their Lives during the Second World War:

    The UN General Assembly declared 8–9 May as a time of remembrance and reconciliation and, while recognizing that Member States may have individual days of victory, liberation and commemoration, invited all Member States, organizations of the United Nations System, non-governmental organizations and individuals to observe annually either one or both of these days in an appropriate manner to pay tribute to all victims of the Second World War.
  • World Migratory Bird Day - Day 1:

    [UNEP] World Migratory Bird Day was initiated in 2006 and is an annual awareness-raising campaign highlighting the need for the protection of migratory birds and their habitats. It is a two-day celebration that begins on the second weekend of May every year.
