US Holiday On March 17 2017?

The following is a compilation of American federal holidays, federal observances, state holidays and other common patriotic and national observances and commemorations that apply to the United States during Friday, 2017-03-17:

  • Saint Patrick's Day:

[other] A holiday honoring Saint Patrick that celebrates Irish culture. Primary activity is simply the wearing of green clothing ("wearing o' the green"), although drinking beer dyed green is also popular. Big parades in some cities, such as in Chicago, where there is also a tradition of dying the Chicago River green.
  • School Energy Conservation Day in Ohio:

[oh-sp] The third Friday in March is designated as "School Energy Conservation Day in Ohio" to promote awareness in the schools of the need to conserve energy resources through reductions in their use as well as through their reuse and recycling.
  • Evacuation Day:

[suffolk] March 17 is Evacuation Day, a holiday observed in Suffolk County, which includes the city of Boston, and also by the public schools in Cambridge and Somerville, Massachusetts. The holiday commemorates the evacuation of British forces from the city of Boston following the Siege of Boston, early in the American Revolutionary War. Schools and government offices (including some Massachusetts state government offices located in Suffolk County) are closed. If March 17 falls on a weekend, schools and government offices are closed on the following Monday in observance. It is the same day as Saint Patrick's Day, a coincidence that played a role in the establishment of the holiday.

Notes:

[other] This is a religious, traditional, or informal observance celebrated in the United States.

[oh-sp] This is a special day, week or month by Statutory Designation in the State of Ohio.

[suffolk] Legal Holiday in Suffolk County, Massachusetts.
