According to Official Guinness Records,

The fastest row by a men’s lightweight coxed eight is 5 minutes 30.24 seconds, by Germany (Klaus Altena, Christian Dahlke, Mike Kobor, Bernhard Stomporowski, Thomas Melges, Uwe März, Michael Buchheit, Kai von Warburg, Olaf Kaska) at the 1992 World Rowing Championships in Montreal, Canada, on 13 August 1992. The crew recorded their time in Heat 1 of their event, but could only win bronze in the final.World Rowing acknowledges "world best" times rather than world records, owing to fluctuating environmental factors involved in outdoor rowing. All times cover 2,000 m races.
