According to Official Guinness Records,

The fastest 2,000 m by a male athlete is 4 minutes 44.79 seconds, by Hicham El Guerrouj (Morocco) at an IAAF Golden League meeting in Berlin, Germany, on 7 September 1999. He beat Noureddine Morceli’s previous record of 4:47.88 by almost three seconds.
