Pakistan batsman Misbah-ul-Haq compiled a half-century in just 21 balls in the Second Test against Australia at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on 2 November 2014. Misbah went on to complete his seventh Test hundred in the same innings, equalling West Indian great Viv Richards for the fastest Test match century (56 balls). After being dropped on four, Misbah reached 50 in just 24 minutes, making it the fastest Test fifty by minutes as well as balls faced. Australia's part-time spinner Steve Smith took most of the punishment, conceding 38 runs from the 11 balls he bowled to Misbah, including three sixes and a four in one over. Misbah went to 49 off 18 balls but played out two dot balls (no runs scored) before clipping a Mitchell Starc delivery - the last ball before lunch on day four of the Second Test - off his pads for three runs. The previous record holder was Jacques Kallis (South Africa), who took 24 balls to reach 50 against Zimbabwe at Newlands, Cape Town, South Africa, on 4 March 2005.
