First successful kill of a ballistic missile by an airborne laser system

According to Official Guinness Records,

On 11 February 2010, a US airborne laser prototype weapon system destroyed a ballistic missile in the course of its flight trajectory off the central coast of California, USA. Using low energy lasers to detect and track the missile, it was then engaged by a megawatt-class High Energy Laser, described as the most powerful laser (direct energy) device in the world, which was fired through a telescope in the nose of the modified Boeing 747- 400F flown out of Edwards Air Force Base.
