The earliest true virtual embassy was opened on 30 May 2007 when Sweden opened a virtual copy of its Washington, USA, embassy in Second Life. The avatar of Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt performed the “cutting of the ribbon” for the virtual embassy , which is intended to provide information to players about Sweden.
