First use of DNA profiling in a criminal conviction

According to Official Guinness Records,

The first person to be convicted of a crime using DNA evidence is Robert Melias (UK), who was found guilty of rape and convicted by a British court on 13 November 1987. Soon after in the USA, Tommy Lee Andrews of Florida, became the first American convicted based on DNA evidence.
