On 12 May 1992, Nim Temba Sherpa (aka Nima Temba Sherpa, Nepal, b. 27 July 1959) climbed to the top of Everest, the world’s highest mountain at 8,848 m (29,029 ft). He was the second of seven sons and two daughters born to Nima Tsiri Sherpa – Edmund Hillary's "mail runner" for his expedition on Everest – and Pema Futi Sherpa. By 16 May 2017, the seven male siblings had accumulated 61 successful ascents of Everest between them: Mingma Tsiri Sherpa (aka Mingma Tshering Sherpa, Nepal, b. 1 August 1970) and Nima Gombu Sherpa (Nepal, b. 28 January 1969) had reached the summit of Everest 19 and 18 times respectively, while their siblings Pasang Tenzing Sherpa (Nepal, b. 1 October 1984) and Thundu Sherpa (Nepal, b. 18 February 1978) had made 11 and 10 successful ascents respectively. The remaining three brothers, Ang Tsiri Sherpa (aka Ang Chhiri Sherpa, Nepal, b. 1 October 1958, d. 12 June 2006), Nim Temba Sherpa and Pema Tharke Sherpa (Nepal, b. 19 May 1961), had each climbed Everest once.The family also includes two daughters: Ngami Sherpa (the fourth child) and Lakpa Futi Sherpa (the seventh child).
