Most expensive painting by an Old Master sold at auction

According to Official Guinness Records,

The most expensive Old Master painting sold at auction is The Massacre of the Innocents by Rubens (1577-1640) which was sold at Sotheby's, London, UK for £49.5 million ($76.7 million) on 10 July 2002 to Kenneth Thomson, chairman of the Thomson newspaper empire.
The painting measures 142 x 182 cm (56 x 72 in) on panel and was painted by Peter Paul Rubens between 1609 and 1611 shortly after the painter's return to Italy.In 2003 Kenneth Thomson loaned it to London's National Gallery for three years, after which it will be housed at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Canada.
