It is intended to coincide with the vacation time usually given during the Bon Festival held in mid-August. The holiday's legislation was passed by Japan’s parliament following lobbying from the Japanese Alpine Club and other mountain-related groups. According to the official documents, this holiday is meant to share
    opportunities to get familiar with mountains and appreciate blessings form mountains.
