Is May 29 2020 Part Of A Jewish Celebration?

The following is a collection of holidays, commemorations, observations and celebrations for the Jewish community during Friday, 2020-05-29. For more information on the equivalence of dates in the Hebrew calendar and other calendars, please see Hebrew Calendar 5780.

  • Shavuot:

[yom-tov][judaism][Shalosh-Regalim] Shavuot occurs on the sixth day of the Hebrew month of Sivan and commemorates the anniversary of the day God gave the Torah to the entire nation of Israel assembled at Mount Sinai, although the association between the giving of the Torah (Matan Torah) and Shavuot is not explicit in the Biblical text. The holiday is one of the Shalosh Regalim, the three Biblical pilgrimage festivals. It marks the conclusion of the Counting of the Omer.

Notes:

[yom-tov] This day is yom tov, so it has similar obligations and restrictions to Shabbat in the sense that normal work (melacha) is forbidden.

[judaism] In Judaism, this day begins at sundown on the evening before.

[Shalosh-Regalim] Pilgrimage to the Temple in Jerusalem.
