The following is a compilation of American federal holidays, federal observances, state holidays and other common patriotic and national observances and commemorations that apply to the United States during Tuesday, 2022-03-01:

  • Shrove Tuesday:

    [fl-le] Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Tuesday, Pancake Day (or Mardi Gras in Florida counties where carnival associations are organized for the purpose of celebrating the same), is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. The expression "Shrove Tuesday"comes from the word shrive, meaning "confess."
  • Ohio Statehood Day:

    [oh-sp] The first day of March is designated as "Ohio statehood day," in recognition of the date in 1803 when Ohio became a state. In addition to those duties imposed on the Ohio historical society under section 149.30 of the Revised Code, and those duties imposed on the superintendent of public instruction under section 3301.12 of the Revised Code, the society shall, throughout the state, and the superintendent shall, in all school districts, encourage and promote the celebration of "Ohio statehood day."
  • Mardi Gras:

    [al] This is an official holiday only in Baldwin and Mobile Counties. All other state employees are granted one personal leave day each year if in employment status on January 1. In Mobile County, during the last two weeks before Mardi Gras, at least one major parade takes place each day in the city. To Mobilians, Mardi Gras refers to the entire festival season, also known as Carnival. Local schools have multiple "Mardi Gras Holidays", which often include Ash Wednesday.

[fl-le] This is a Legal Holiday in the State of Florida. If a holiday falls on Saturday, the preceding Friday shall be observed as a holiday and if a holidays falls on Sunday, the following Monday shall be observed as a holiday.

[oh-sp] This is a special day, week or month by Statutory Designation in the State of Ohio.

[al] This is an official holiday in the State of Alabama. In Alabama, Saturday holidays are observed on Fridays and Sunday holidays are observed on Mondays.
