Month Calendar For United States Holidays March 2022

  • National Nutrition Month: The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is the United States' largest organization of food and nutrition professionals and sponsors National Nutrition Month held on March every year as part as their commitment to helping people enjoy healthy lives.
    • Women's History Month[fed-ob][pro]: Women's History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. It is celebrated during March in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, corresponding with International Women's Day on March 8. According to the Presidential Proclamation:
For too long, women were formally excluded from full participation in our society and our democracy. Because of the courage of so many bold women who dared to transcend preconceived expectations and prove they were capable of doing all that a man could do and more, advances were made, discoveries were revealed, barriers were broken, and progress triumphed. [...] This month, as we reflect on the marks made by women throughout history, let us uphold the responsibility that falls on all of us -- regardless of gender -- and fight for equal opportunity for our daughters as well as our sons.
      • American Red Cross Month[fed-ob][pro]: March is Red Cross Month, a time to honor the millions of people like you who generously give of your time, talent, money and blood to help change lives for those in need. President Franklin D. Roosevelt first declared March Red Cross Month in 1943. Each president since continues the tradition of recognizing the lifesaving services provided by the Red Cross and the incredible volunteers who make it possible. According to the Presidential Proclamation:
During this month, supporters, volunteers, and employees of the American Red Cross reflect the best of our Nation's spirit -- responding to tens of thousands of tragedies here at home each year and bringing relief and assistance to suffering individuals across the globe. In the last year, countless people from the American Red Cross and many other service organizations have served on the front lines of disaster and done the hard work of improving our country and our world, never asking for credit or glory, fame or fortune.
      • Irish-American Heritage Month[fed-ob][pro]: Irish-American Heritage Month is celebrated by proclamation of the President and Congress in the United States to honor the achievements and contributions of Irish immigrants and their descendants living in the United States. It was celebrated for the first time in 1991. The Presidential Proclamation states that:
As we celebrate Irish-American Heritage Month, we recognize the Irish people's contributions to our country's dynamism, and we reaffirm the friendship and family ties between our two nations. [...] While remembering the great Irish Americans of the past, we celebrate what forms the foundation of the lasting Irish-American story -- a shared embrace of hard work and humility, fairness and dignity, and a mutual quest to secure a freer and more peaceful future.
        • Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month[oh-sp]: March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. This health observance was created in 2000 to increase awareness of the importance of regular screening to save lives and decrease the national burden of colorectal cancer (cancer of the colon or rectum). Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States, after lung/bronchus cancer.
          • Eye Donor Month in Ohio[oh-sp]: The month of March of every year is designated as "Eye Donor Month in Ohio."
            • Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month[oh-sp]: The month of March is designated as "Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month" to enhance understanding of the disease, including its causes and health effects, and to support and encourage education programs and research to develop effective therapies and find a cure.
