US Holiday On October 11 2020?

The following is a compilation of American federal holidays, federal observances, state holidays and other common patriotic and national observances and commemorations that apply to the United States during Sunday, 2020-10-11:

  • National School Lunch Week - Day 1:

[pro] This year National School Lunch Week starts on Sunday, October 11 2020 and ends on Saturday, October 17 2020. In 1946 (74 years ago) President Harry Truman signed the National School Lunch Act, which provided meals for over 7 million children in its first year. By joint resolution approved October 9, 1962, the Congress designated the week beginning on the second Sunday of October in each year as "National School Lunch Week"and authorized and requested the President to issue a proclamation in observance of this week. According to a recent presidential proclamation,

More than 30 million children depend on the National School Lunch Program for daily nutrition, and more than 13 million children are able to start their school day with a full stomach because of the School Breakfast Program. For many young people, these programs are the only regular source of food. That is why it is more important than ever to strengthen them and make sure they are supporting healthy lifestyles in classrooms across America. During National School Lunch Week, we encourage schools to expand access to nutritious food options, and we salute all those who work in our Nation's school cafeterias and food preparation centers.

  • International Day of the Girl:

[pro] This day is an apportunity to remember that all men and women are created equal and that we must strive for a world where girls and boys look to the future with the same sense of promise and possibility. According to the Presidential Proclamation,
In every community across the globe, girls and women should have the opportunity to learn, grow, and achieve their full potential. All nations have a responsibility to protect the basic human rights of all people, and when they do -- when girls and women are fully valued as equal participants in a country's politics and economy -- societies are more likely to succeed.
  • General Pulaski Memorial Day:

[pro] The eleventh day of October shall be designated as "General Pulaski Memorial Day", in honor of General Casimir Pulaski, Polish patriot and American revolution military commander. According to the Presidential Proclamation,
More than 200 years ago, Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski answered the call of our fledgling Nation as we sought to secure liberty and justice. A Polish-born leader, he fought and sacrificed his life for a country not fully his own. He understood that the promise of our new Nation was not about circumstance of birth, but rather a set of beliefs and unalienable rights. Today, we pay tribute to a hero of the American Revolutionary War, and we celebrate the contributions that generations of Polish-Americans have made to the country for whose independence Pulaski took up arms.

Notes:

[pro] This is a special day designated by presidential proclamation.
