First known programme budget

According to Official Guinness Records,

In 1936, Cecil Madden, programme organiser and senior producer at Alexandra Palace, was allotted £1,000 (then US$4,971) for a week's entire television output for the BBC. This, in part, accounted for the viewing pattern - one hour in the afternoons, one hour in the evenings and no television on Sundays. Today (2001), it would be the equivalent of £28,850 (US$40,390)
