According to Official Guinness Records,

On 1 March 2011 scientists at the University of Manchester, UK announced they had created an optical microscope that can see objects just 50 nanometres across. The instrument uses tiny spherical particles known as microspheres to amplify its optical power. This technique produces sufficient resolution to image the insides of living cells.
