According to Official Guinness Records,

Michael Jackson (USA, 1958-2009) holds the record with a span of 39 years and two months. He first charted on the Hot 100 with “Got To Be There” on 6 November 1971 and last hit with “Hold My Hand” on 1 January 2011.
