First person to swim the length of the English Channel
According to Official Guinness Records,
The first person to swim the length of the English Channel was Lewis Pugh (UK/South Africa, b. 5 December 1969), from 12 July to 29 August 2018. Lewis began his one-way stage swim in Sennan Cove, Land’s End, Cornwall, UK, and reached Admiralty Pier, Dover, Kent, UK, 49 days later, swimming 10 to 20 km (six to 12 miles) almost every day and covering a total distance of 560 km (348 miles). The record was set under the auspices of the Channel Swimming Association.Adhering to the strict “Channel Swimming Association Rules”, which prohibit any aid to heat retention, such as a wetsuit or neoprene cap, Lewis wore just a standard cap and swim costume, and goggles.
